No. 209 De Luxe Smooth

Imagine in 1937 you walk into a hardware store and you see the No. 209 for the first time, you stopped and took it all in. The lever cap, chip breaker, iron, cheeks, and sole were all chromed. The knob and tote were a transparent red plastic showing the bolts securing them. This plane looked so good, you may have been hesitant to actually use it.

Pulling the text from the catalog β€œThe transparent red knob and handle are made of Permaloid, an indestructible plastic that contrasts pleasingly with the brilliant chrome plating and the black enameled inside the bottom.”

This plane is based on the premium type 2 No. 9 plane with a high support rib. The plane was introduced in 1937. To date, no examples have been found to show it was produced after 1941.
