Raised Casting Numbers

Cast Number “2” on Frog

I have three examples of a raised number “2” cast in the back of a frog behind the lateral adjuster rivet. All three frogs are 2inch with folded lateral adjusters. The first was from a Craftsman No. 5264 with a two-digit stamp “4C” on the cheek without the “BB”. The second is from a 209 and the third from a No. 9 type 2/1. Both the No. 209 and the No. 9 had a 317 casting number on the frog and had overlapping production dates between 1937 to 1941. No casting number was on to the Craftsman and is believed to have been produced around 1934.

The left frog is from the Craftsman 4C. The center is from the No. 209 and the right from a No. 9 type 2.

There are two examples of a raised letter on the bed of the body. These were from a No. 9 type 2 second release and a No. 814 also produced during this same time frame.

The top body is from the No. 9 type 2/2. The bottom body is the No. 814.

Another example of a raised number is from a No. 900 Mohawk Shelburne lever cap.

Could these numbers and letters identify the template used in the casting? Yet another Millers Falls mystery.
